Galaxy Express 999 Virtual Tour

You dreamed of this ride since you were a child, and now the departure time is close. Imagine sitting on this train, looking at the stars, travelling through space. With this VR experience, you can finally see the universe through the eyes of a young boy, as he sets out to make his dreams come true. Get onboard the Galaxy Epress 999 created by mangaka Leiji Matsumoto.

Compatibility

  • Desktop (recent Firefox, Safari or Chrome)
  • Phone (Chrome on Android works, Firefox on Android and iOS are unsupported)
  • VR headset (Meta Quest, other devices untested but should work...)
  • Google Cardboard could be used with a gamepad, but is untested.

Commands

Open the doors (some can't be opened) and interact with the portals (blue arrows on the ground) to move to a different scene.

Desktop
Use the arrow keys to move around and the mouse to align the reticle with objects. Click to interact with them. Press Esc to get out of the pointer lock mode.

Phone
Orient your phone to look around. Touch the screen to move forward. Use 2 fingers to move backward. Hover the reticle on objects for a little while to interact with them.

VR headset
Move the left thumbtick forward to where you want to teleport. You can also rotate the view by moving the left thumbstick right or left. Point at things using the white laser and push the trigger to interact with them.

Known issues

  • Doors can be walked through when closed.
  • Doors can be interacted with through walls.
  • Sounds not playing on mobile.
