[Prototype] Maniac Mansion GB
This port of the Maniac Mansion game on NES to Game Boy is made with GB Studio.
I wanted to experiment with point and click games, and this gave me the perfect opportunity to rethink the gameplay while conserving the sprites, actions and storyline of the original game.
On the NES, the lower part of the screen is taken by the action verbs list and inventory. The area dedicated to the game itself is quite small. By making it full screen on the Game Boy, I added two 8 pixel rows to the background (either on top, bottom or both).
The action verbs were moved to a menu (accessible by pressing A when in close proximity to an interactive object). The inventory also has a dedicated menu (button B).
This is merely a test. I never intend to port the full game but I may continue experimenting with the user interface.
Will you manage to open the front door and get into the mansion?

That's incredible! How did you manage to make the character so big? :o
I move multiple sprites at a time in GB Studio 2. That's why it's a bit janky.
I could do much better by porting the whole thing to GB Studio 3 and using metasprites.
